8 Goals for Africa music video to be screened across South Africa during World Cup

Johannesburg, South Africa – Helen Clark, the chair of the UN Development Group which brings together all UN agencies working in development, today launched 8 Goals for Africa, a campaign song by eight of Africa’s best known musicians, calling for commitment to achieve the Millennium Development Goals – a set of eight internationally-agreed goals designed to reduce poverty, hunger, disease, and maternal and child deaths by 2015.


South African Model UN high school students win award at Cornell University

Pretoria – A group of 12 high school students from throughout South Africa was last week awarded the Best Small Delegation Award at the Cornell Model United Nations Conference held in Ithaca, New York State in the USA. The students, from both resourced and under-resourced schools in all 9 provinces of South Africa, were selected at an international Model UN conference held at the historic Robben Island, off Cape Town in October 2009. Consultative meeting held to develop United Nations South Africa gender programme

Pretoria – The United Nations in South Africa and the Government of South Africa held a consultative stakeholder workshop to develop a UN gender programme of support for South Africa. The programme responds to South Africa’s aspirations to build a better South Africa and strengthen South Africa’s leadership on regional and global gender issues. (more…)
