Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the death of a MONUSCO peacekeeper in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Secretary-General condemns the killing of a Tanzanian peacekeeper and the wounding of ten others in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo earlier today, when they came under fire from the M23 group and while carrying out the mandate of the Force Intervention Brigade. The attack occurred as the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) supported action by the Forces armées de la République démocratique du Congo (FARDC) to protect civilian-populated areas of Goma. UN partners assisting hundreds of thousands affected by floods in Sudan
