UN in South Africa goes big in celebrating UN Day 2013

Pretoria – The UN in South Africa’s celebrations of UN Day 2013 reached a record number of people this year.  Beginning with the UN4U educational outreach from 14-18 October 2013, the UN in South Africa was welcomed into over 20 schools in Gauteng and North West Province, reaching a record 16,000 learners, more than double compared to the previous year.  (more…)

UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth visits township outside Pretoria

Pretoria – In early October 2013, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth visited South Africa for the first time. As part of his visit, on 4 October 2013, Ahmad Alhendawi took time to visit the SOS Children’s Village in Mamelodi, a township outside Pretoria, to show his support for the youth who reside in the SOS-sponsored community. First-ever UN Youth Envoy visits South Africa

Pretoria, 30 Oct. 2013 – During his first visit to South Africa earlier this month, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi agreed with the UN Country Team to make South Africa one of the 15 countries to pilot UN youth advisory boards. The young people will provide the UN in South Africa with input into issues that are important to them. (more…)
