Learners-from-Ahmed-Timol-Sec-School-gather-for-the-last-snap-with-Organizers

UNIC Pretoria observed International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust on the 27th January 2017 with over 200 learners from Ahmed Timol Secondary School in Azaadville, Krugersdorp, West of Johannesburg. The Educational Programme was organized by UNIC Pretoria in partnership with The Holocaust and Genocide Centre in Johannesburg and Education Africa with the theme for this year being: “Holocaust Remembrance: Educating for a Better Future”.

Through various activities, learners were informed about the work of the United Nations, watched an animated video about the Sustainable Developmental Goals as well as, discussed the relevance and significance of this International Day of Remembrance.

A student engages with Under Secretary-General and Head of the Department of Communication and Public Information at the UN, Ms Cristina Gallach.

UNIC Pretoria celebrated UN Day on Monday, 24th October by hosting a Twitter Party at the Rosa Parks Innovation Studio in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.

The event, in partnership with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), aimed at bringing learners together in the digital world and affording them the opportunity to interact with Under Secretary-General and Head of the Department of Communication and Public Information at the UN, Ms Cristina Gallach.

On 14 October, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, speaking at the World Food Day commemoration event, at Nkume Sports Field in uMlalazi Local Municipality in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, advised that “Climate change is real and things must change”.

UNIC visit to Curro Independent School in Roodeplaat Pretoria for teh International Day of Peace commemoration

PRETORIA – 21 September 2016 – 

This year, to commemorate the International day of Peace, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) partnered with UN Volunteers and the African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) to educate learners on peace and its link to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The day began at Curro Independent School in Roodeplaat where primary school learners were informed and quizzed about their knowledge of the UN and what peace means to them with many saying that peace “is to not fight and to find solutions to conflicts”
