FAO South Africa launches 2 TeleFood projects in Soshanguve

Pretoria – FAO South Africa in collaboration with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), Tshwane Municipality, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), and Community Development Workers (CDW) are to launch 2 TeleFood projects in City of Tshwane.

Tivhuxheni Vhavhasati Cooperative and Kutlwano Vegetable production will be launched on August 21, 2009 in Soshanguve South and Soshanguve North respectively.

With TeleFood, these micro-projects enable farmers and communities with limited or no investment capacity to access to most essential production items such as basic tools, materials, and agricultural inputs to grow crops, raise livestock and fish, process food to feed their families and sell production surpluses at an affordable price to local communities. TeleFood also enables communities to acquire the necessary skills in the agricultural sector.

The Launch Details
Date: 21 August 2009
Time: 10am in Soshanguve South and 12pm in Soshanguve North

Led by the FAO Country Representative, Rosebud V. Kurwijila, the officials will launch the projects and hand over to the community equipment worth over R131, 000.00 from FAO’s TeleFood Campaign.
