Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Director-General Dr Jacques Diouf to visit South Africa

The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Dr Jacques Diouf  is expected to visit South Africa from 4 – 5 September 2008.

Dr Jacques Diouf, Director-General Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)This official visit follows the appointment of the FAO Representative for South Africa, Ms Rosebud Kurwijila in August 2008.

The FAO Office in South Africa envisages that the visit will allow the Director-General to have discussions with the President, Mr Thabo Mbeki, the Minister of the Department of Agriculture (and Land Affairs),  Ms Thoko Didiza and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

Expected on the agenda are the South-South Cooperation in favour of African countries during this difficult time of the global food crisis and a model project involving South Africa and FAO in support of rice and other crop productions that could be considered and developed for other countries.
