UNESCO Press Release No.2017-126 Paris, 27 October—Ninety percent of cases concerning the killing of journalists remain unpunished, according to information Member States provided to the Organization in 2017. This is a slight improvement compared to last year, when countries’ answers to UNESCO’s written enquires indicated that only 8% of such cases led to a conviction.

PRETORIA, 27 October 2017: UNICEF South Africa believes that the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS 2017) affirms the commitment of the Government of South Africa to protect poor and vulnerable households. The MTBPS also lays out the persistent challenges for sustaining social services amidst difficult economic conditions which in turn affect budget revenues.
