These goals represent a universal commitment to end poverty, achieve shared prosperity, build peace and secure a life of dignity and a healthy planet for present and future generations. This is a quest I take personally as the UN Resident Coordinator as I firmly believe it holds the key to unlocking a future generation that is empowered and resilient. SDG Bulletin South Africa – May 2018

Food security – an essential and pervasive theme across the SDGs .While SDG2 focuses on ending hunger, reducing food insecurity and improving nutrition, elements related to food security can be found in all 17 SDGs. Twelve SDGs contain indicators related to nutrition. As food security is a complex concept that includes multiple development-related elements, it is not surprising that achieving food security would help achieve the SDGs in general and progress in the other 16 SDGs would contribute to food security.
