Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the death of a MONUSCO peacekeeper

New York – The Secretary-General deeply regrets the death of a MONUSCO peacekeeper from India in Bunagana, North Kivu, who was caught in cross-fire in clashes between the Congolese Army and armed mutineers who call themselves the M23 group.The Secretary-General expresses his serious concern about the situation in eastern DRC, and calls for an immediate end to all violence perpetrated by armed groups.

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the family of the victim and to the Government and people of India.
