TloTlo-Mpho Primary School,  Ga-Rankuwa, Gauteng, South Africa, 11 July 2013 – In commemoration of World Population Day 2013, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Pretoria  addressed  a group of  70 learners aged 12 to 13 at the Tlolo-Mpho Primary School in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria during a FUN Day event on 11 July 2013.

The UNIC Librarian, Hope Kabamba, who was joined by two UNIC Interns, introduced the pupils to the work of the United Nations and the different UN agencies as well as the Millennium Development Goals, before doing a presentation on World Population Day. This year’s theme Adolescent Pregnancy was explained through providing the pupils with information on population statistics and its implications on sustainability, urbanisation, and access to health services and youth employment.

Population studies forms an integral part of the grade 6 and 7 social science syllabus, which through this interactive session encouraged the students to participate in the discussion with the UNIC team.  The FUN Day event ended with a quiz for the pupils who received FUN packs and UN t-shirts. A collection of books from Rotary SA were also donated to the school library
