External partners where invited to the retreat to provide an overview of the South Africa economic and political perspective for 2016 as well as to share their views on how best the UN can deliver in the country. The three day brainstorming centered on the common UN approach to rolling out the new sustainable development agenda (SDGs); a review South Africa’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Report, as well as the progress of joint programming. Other key topics were Communication as One around the SDGs, and how these Goals can be localised so that there’s a better understanding and ownership by South Africa; as well as the future of development cooperation in South Africa.
