UN in South Africa messages for the 16 Days of Activism

Once again, the United Nations in South Africa joined the rest of the world to amplify the message on ending Violence Against Women and Girls. Gender-Based Violence and Feminicide remain the common cause of death for women and has been normalised in communities with perpetuators walking free, with a justice system that still fails to hold perpetuators accountable and victims and survivors continue to live in fear.

Government’s failure to protect women and girls from these gruesome acts of violations has given birth to a societal-norm of “BYSTANDERISM” – where witnesses and onlookers do nothing when women and children are abused, raped, harassed and murdered. We must change, speak out and create safe communities for all.

SILENCE bigots VIOLENCE – NOT IN MY NAME!

There are many ways you can take action. Challenge stereotypes, social and cultural practices or behaviour by your family, friends, workplace or community. You can seek help for and support victims of gender-based violence. SILENCE bigots VIOLENCE, NOT IN MY NAME!
