UNIC/STATEMENT/2018/09/23: “It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing away of South Africa’s Minister of Environment Dr. Edna Edith Bomo Molewa. On behalf of the UN family in South Africa, I send my deepest condolences to Dr. Molewa’s family, the Government of South Africa and the people who had the privilege to work with her.
This is indeed shocking news for us as Edna served in various UN bodies including the Bureau of United Nations Environment Assembly Bureau, the Africa Ministers Conference on Environment (AMCEN) Bureau at the time of her passing. We all feel an immense loss of a devoted leader and champion for the cause of sustainable development and her passing on has left a big gap .
The UN family in South Africa offers deepest condolences to her family, the Government of South Africa, friends and all those who worked with her.
May her soul rest in eternal peace!”
